Hawley Society Announces Wine Country Reunion
82nd Annual Hawley Society Reunion
Chicago, IL September 1, 2012: The Society of the Hawley announces its 82nd Annual Reunion will be held October 4-6 in the California Wine Country. On Friday, we will be visiting the Historic Railroad Square area, including the Luther Burbank Home & Garden, the Sonoma County Museum of Art & History and a planned dinner at a local restaurant. On Saturday, we will tour the Hawley Winery in Dry Creek Valley, Healdsburg, enjoy a wine tasting, learn about falconry, and experience the art of Dana Hawley. The reunion is open to members and their guests, as well as any non-members who have an interest in genealogy or the Hawley name.
”We are very excited about this reunion,” said Michael Hawley, President. “This is the first time we have met on the West Coast. We have usually been focused on New England since our ancestors were highly concentrated there since the early 17th century.”
The Hawley Record, published in 1890, was the result of 45 years personal correspondence between Elias Sill Hawley, a teacher in Buffalo, and his many relatives around the world, near and far. Three hundred copies were printed and they are becoming increasingly difficult to find. There will be copies available at reunion to be enjoyed and researched.
The Society of the Hawley Family was founded in 1923 by several descendants of Joseph Hawley (1603-1690), from whom many of the members are descended. The Society was incorporated in Connecticut as a non-profit in 1927. The group supports credible genealogical reporting, continued research on the family’s English antecedents, and the Hawley Surname Project at Family Tree DNA. They hope to publish an updated version of The Hawley Record at some point in the future.
