Join the Hawley Society!

Membership in the Hawley Society is open to anyone with an interest in the Hawley name or in family history. Our members range from dedicated researchers and history enthusiasts to those who simply enjoy the sense of community our society fosters.

We are committed to credible genealogical research grounded in reliable primary sources, and we deeply value the integrity of each other’s work. Our society reflects the belief that all of us are connected—after all, it’s said that no one alive today is more distantly related than a fortieth cousin!

Our mission goes beyond basic research, with several key initiatives:

Tracing Our European Ancestry – We continue to support efforts to identify our family’s European roots. While speculation exists, no verified evidence has yet been found regarding the parents of Joseph Hawley, the immigrant.

DNA Research – We sponsor the Hawley Surname Project at Family Tree DNA, using science to complement traditional genealogical methods.

Updating The Hawley Record – We are diligently working to update and republish The Hawley Record in a modern format. For privacy reasons, this excludes anyone born after 1940 who is still living. It is a significant undertaking that requires time and resources, but one that is vital to preserving and expanding our documented family history.

Our genealogist, Trudy Hawley, devotes considerable time assisting members with their research. While we cannot conduct in-depth research for individuals, the society offers guidance and valuable resources. It’s important to note that Trudy and the entire Executive Committee are dedicated volunteers—the Hawley Society has no employees and never will. We do this work because it matters to us.

If you share our passion for family history, we warmly invite you to join us!

The Society Newsletter

One of the highlights of being a member of the Hawley Society is receiving our quarterly newsletter. Each issue is eagerly anticipated as it offers a chance to explore our family’s past, stay connected in the present, and look ahead to the future.

The Society also hosts annual reunions and business meetings, typically held in October. Each year we gather in a new location of interest—always with a meaningful connection to the Hawley family and its history.
