    The Hawley Record
In 1843, a young Elias Sill Hawley, a teacher from Buffalo,

New York, although born and raised in Saratoga, New York,
Suivez Moi changed careers to law and returned to Saratoga.  He was
(Follow Me) to be examined by Chancellor Walworth for admission to
    the Court of Chancery there.
  HOME
While waiting in the library for his call, he broused, idly
OUR HISTORY scanning a book on English families.  Finding Hawleys, his
latent interest in Hawley family history was ignited and led
ABOUT US to almost a half century of collecting information on the
    family, mostly through personal correspondence.
  OFFICERS
When a fellow Hawley businessman offered to finance the
MEMBERSHIP publishing of his material, he readily agreed.  Some three
hundred copies of The Hawley Record were produced
BULLETINS by the Hutchinson Company of Buffalo, New York, in 1890.

GENEALOGY Many copies of the book still exist, in various libraries, historical societies, and
personal collections.  The Society is fortunate to own several copies.
  DNA GENEALOGY
All Hawley researchers owe Elias a huge debt of gratitude for without his exhaustive
HAWLEY SURNAME PROJECT research, we would have less of a foundation today for our research.

REUNIONS Our genealogist, Trudy Hawley, assisted by certain volunteers, is working to correct
the errors and fill in omissions in the original work.   It is a goal of the Society to
2008 REUNION-KANSAS CITY republish an updated The Hawley Record.   After all, there is now over 120 more
    years of additional family history!

  JOSEPH HAWLEY (1603-1690)
SAMUEL HAWLEY, SR A database of Hawley genealogy, beginning with Joseph Hawley, has been developed
WILHELMINA D HAWLEY using The Hawley Record as a foundation.  Our genealogist has provided additional
information and corrections.   Click on the link above to access the database which is
    housed on Rootsweb.

The Society of the Hawley Family invites your participation and inquiries from all
interested researchers of the Hawley surname, and welcomes corrections, additions,
and sources to the database.  We work to preserve, promote and encourage historical
research on the Hawley surname in general.   We currently sponsor research in
England, through our British archivist, Sue Honore, to prove the parentage of
    Joseph Hawley (1603-1690).
  HERALDRY

LINKS Genetic Genealogy: Hawley Surname Project
Technology has advanced genealogic research beyond sifting their dusty records filed
MEMBER BUSINESSES away in the many repositories where they are found.  Additionally as we have all
learned are often misleading, incorrect or lead us directly to a dead end.

The Hawley Surname Project at Family DNA.com is a Y-chromosome project, meaning
it is open to males only with the surname Hawley.   Upon joining the project, male
Hawleys will receive a kit in the mail to donate a swab of genetic material from inside
their mouth.   Various levels of testing for genetic markers are available from twelve to
sixty-six.   The price of the testing is commensurate with the number of markers
requested.   You will receive a report following the analysis with contact information
    to those you match.

Please click the link above to read more about this fascinating project.   If you have
